The algae are a very diverse group of organisms and taxonomic designations are constantly undergoing revisions. As a result, genus or species designations for strains deposited at UTEX often change after they are accessioned. In order to limit confusion and maintain continuity, it is the policy of UTEX to maintain strains under the designation given by the depositor at the time of accession. Taxonomic revisions can be found in the strain notes.
